Chennai, Tamil Nadu
Adidas Global Capability Centre (GCC), based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is the first and only global capacity center for the German athletic footwear and apparel giant in Asia outside of China. Operating as a pivotal arm of Adidas’s Global Business Services (GBS) division, the hub is designed to integrate with the company’s existing international GBS network across Porto (Portugal), Dalian (China), Bogota (Colombia), and North America to support widespread global operations. Led by Akhil Kapoor, Vice President of GBS Global Procurement and Head of GBS India, the Chennai center was established to bring critical, high-value corporate processes in-house. It focuses heavily on centralizing key finance, procurement, and supply chain functions. The hub plays a major role in managing end-to-end operational workflows, including source-to-pay (S2P), financial planning and analysis (FP&A), invoice-to-cash (I2C), and record-to-report (R2R). By establishing these pillars in India, Adidas aims to streamline its supply chain management and enhance the efficiency of its global distribution networks, particularly complementing its market operations in the United States and Europe. While initially anchored in finance and procurement, the center is structured to scale rapidly and move up the corporate value chain over a three-to-five-year period. Beyond transactional shared services, the facility is building capabilities in technology, data analytics, and digital innovation. Recruitment initiatives focus on high-quality resources for specialized tech roles, such as managers of reporting and performance management, senior data engineering specialists, continuous improvement business analysts, and ServiceNow specialists. This evolution aims to expand the GCC's remit into advanced domains like product creation, e-commerce platform development, and artificial intelligence. The selection of Chennai underscores the region’s growing prominence as a major knowledge hub and a destination for research, development, and engineering. Adidas's expansion benefits from India's vast software expertise, cost advantages, and favorable macroeconomic stability. Government initiatives like "Skill India" and "Digital India" further support the ecosystem by securing a highly skilled workforce fluent in data science, machine learning, and cloud engineering. As Adidas continues to expand its Chennai facility, it joins a growing cohort of retail and consumer giants leveraging Indian GCCs to drive operational excellence, digital transformation, and next-generation supply chain responsiveness worldwide.
