Aptiv PLC is a leading global industrial technology and mobility company specializing in the design, development, and manufacturing of advanced software and hardware solutions for the automotive and commercial vehicle markets. Originally rooted in General Motors' parts division established around 1908, the company evolved into Delphi Automotive Systems, which spun off from GM as an independent corporation in 1999. In December 2017, following the spin-off of its powertrain business, the company strategically rebranded as Aptiv to signal a definitive shift toward higher-value, software-defined mobility and next-generation vehicle architectures. Structurally organized in Jersey, the company relocated its corporate headquarters to Schaffhausen, Switzerland, in January 2025 for tax purposes, while maintaining major operational roots globally. The company’s strategic alignment focuses heavily on three core industry themes: safer vehicles, greener propulsion, and more connected, software-defined architectures. To achieve this, Aptiv operates through two main reportable business segments: Signal and Power Solutions: This segment focuses on the physical and electrical architecture of the vehicle. It designs and manufactures critical hardware components such as electrical distribution systems, wiring harnesses, high-voltage electrification products, connectors, terminals, and cable management solutions. This foundational infrastructure enables vehicles to manage increasing power and data requirements safely and efficiently. Advanced Safety and User Experience: This high-growth segment combines hardware and software capabilities, managing active safety systems, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), in-vehicle centralized compute platforms, and infotainment systems. It also includes embedded and cloud-native software architectures driven by Wind River, an intelligent edge software developer acquired by Aptiv in 2022 for $3.5 billion. Aptiv plays a vital role as a Tier-One supplier to major global automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Its technology enables over-the-air (OTA) updates, sensor fusion, and complex automated driving features. To expand its market share in autonomous mobility, Aptiv established Motional, a $4 billion autonomous driving joint venture with Hyundai Motor Group, in March 2020. It has also expanded its capabilities via strategic investments, such as acquiring an 85% stake in Intercable Automotive Solutions in 2022 and an 18% stake in the Chinese automated driving company Maxieye in late 2024. With an expansive global footprint, Aptiv operates 139 major manufacturing facilities and 11 technical centers across 50 countries, including significant operations in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America. Led by Chairman and CEO Kevin P. Clark, the company employs approximately 140,000 people worldwide. Financially, Aptiv is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: APTV) and stands as an S&P 500 component, reporting a consolidated annual revenue of approximately $20.398 billion and an operating income of $1.184 billion for the 2025 fiscal year.
