It also includes embedded and cloud-native software architectures driven by Wind River, an intelligent edge software developer acquired by Aptiv in 2022 for $3.5 billion. Aptiv plays a vital role as a Tier-One supplier to major global automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). Its technology enables over-the-air (OTA) updates, sensor fusion, and complex automated driving features. To expand its market share in autonomous mobility, Aptiv established Motional, a $4 billion autonomous driving joint venture with Hyundai Motor Group, in March 2020. It has also expanded its capabilities via strategic investments, such as acquiring an 85% stake in Intercable Automotive Solutions in 2022 and an 18% stake in the Chinese automated driving company Maxieye in late 2024. With an expansive global footprint, Aptiv operates 139 major manufacturing facilities and 11 technical centers across 50 countries, including significant operations in North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and South America.
