Arvind Limited (formerly known as Arvind Mills) is a prominent Indian vertically integrated textile-to-retail conglomerate and the flagship company of the Lalbhai Group. Founded in 1931 by the brothers Kasturbhai, Narottambhai, and Chimanbhai Lalbhai in response to Mahatma Gandhi's call for the Swadeshi movement, the company is headquartered in Naroda, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Over its nearly century-long history, Arvind has evolved from a traditional textile mill into an innovation-led enterprise with business operations spanning textiles, apparel manufacturing, advanced materials, environmental solutions, telecom, and real estate. The core of Arvind's business remains its textile segment. The company is recognized as the largest producer of denim in India and one of the largest globally, maintaining a massive production capacity of millions of meters of denim and woven fabrics annually. Its extensive product portfolio includes cotton shirting, denim, knits, bottomweights (khakis), and voiles, catering to both domestic and international fashion brands. Through its apparel manufacturing division, Arvind provides vertically integrated solutions, converting fabric into finished garments like jeans and shirts for leading global retailers. While its former branded apparel subsidiary, Arvind Fashions, was demerged to unlock shareholder value, Arvind Limited historically pioneered bringing iconic global labels such as Arrow, Tommy Hilfiger, and Calvin Klein to the Indian retail market, alongside its home-grown brands like Flying Machine. Beyond traditional textiles, Arvind has strategically diversified into high-margin segments. Its Advanced Materials Division (AMD), established in 2011, focuses on technical textiles, including human protection (fire-retardant fabrics), industrial products (filtration and belting), advanced composites, and automotive fabrics, acting as a key supplier to the Indian defense sector and global institutions. In the environmental sector, its subsidiary Arvind Envisol provides industrial-scale wastewater treatment and zero liquid discharge solutions, backed by globally patented technologies like Polymeric Film Evaporation Technology (PFET). The company also maintains a footprint in telecom through public mobile radio trunking services and real estate development. Sustainability is central to Arvind's operations. The company has pioneered water stewardship and circular economy initiatives, such as establishing India's first commercial-scale supercritical CO2 dyeing machine to drastically reduce chemical and water consumption, and partnering with global organizations like Gap Inc. and PurFi Global to process recycled textiles and eliminate freshwater reliance. For the fiscal year 2024–25, Arvind Limited reported a total consolidated revenue of ₹8,329 crore and a net income of ₹367 crore, employing a permanent workforce of over 25,000 people. Publicly traded on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) under the ticker ARVIND, the company continues to focus on strategic deleveraging, increasing vertical integration, and driving long-term value through design-led manufacturing.
