Atul Limited is a prominent, diversified, and integrated Indian chemical company and a key member of the Lalbhai Group, one of the oldest business houses in India. Founded on September 5, 1947, by the legendary industrialist and institution builder Kasturbhai Lalbhai, just a month after India gained independence, the company was established with a vision to generate large-scale employment, create wealth in rural India, and make the nation self-sufficient in its chemical requirements. It holds the distinction of being the first private sector company in India to be inaugurated by the country’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on March 17, 1952. Headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, Atul operates primarily from its main manufacturing hub in Atul village, Valsad district, Gujarat, which stands as one of the largest integrated chemical complexes in India. The company follows a business-to-business model and has expanded its footprint globally, serving approximately 4,000 customers belonging to 30 diverse industries across more than 90 countries. To efficiently manage its international operations and enhance market depth, Atul has established wholly owned subsidiaries in the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Brazil, and the United Arab Emirates. The organization manages complex chemical processes through structured operations divided across two primary reporting segments: Life Science Chemicals and Performance and Other Chemicals. These segments encompass nine distinct business units: Aromatics, Bulk Chemicals and Intermediates, Colors, Crop Protection (Bulk Actives and Retail), Floras, Pharmaceuticals, Polymers (Performance Materials), and Adhesives. With a deep focus on science and technology, Atul manufactures around 1,350 products and 400 formulations. Notably, the company is the world's largest producer of para Cresol, para-anisic aldehyde, and para-anisic alcohol, commanding about 55% of the total global capacity at a single location. Throughout its history, it has pioneered the manufacturing of several products for the first time in India, including Vat dyes, crop care chemicals, Phosgene, Carbamite, 2,4-D Acid, and tissue culture raised date palms. It was also the first Indian company to manufacture the pharmaceutical drug Dapsone. Over the decades, Atul has built fruitful collaborations with leading multinational corporations, including historical joint ventures with American Cyanamid, Imperial Chemical Industries, and Ciba-Geigy. Financially, Atul Limited is publicly traded on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). For the fiscal year ended March 31, 2025, the company reported a consolidated revenue from operations of INR 5,583.35 crore and a net income of INR 499 crore. The company is led by Chairman and Managing Director Sunil Siddharth Lalbhai along with Managing Director Samveg Arvind Lalbhai. Emphasizing sustainability, the company integrates strict environmental standards backed by its ISO 14001 certification, and its Atul village development project received the prestigious Platinum Green Village certification in 2024.
