The core operations of BEML are divided across three major business verticals: Mining & Construction, Rail & Metro, and Defence & Aerospace. In the Mining & Construction segment, BEML stands as India's leading manufacturer and Asia's second-largest producer of earthmoving equipment, commanding a major market share. Its comprehensive product portfolio includes hydraulic excavators, bulldozers, wheel loaders, dump trucks, motor graders, rope shovels, and walking draglines tailored for opencast and underground mining. Notably, the company recently unveiled the BRS21, a 720-tonne electric rope shovel, and India's first indigenous 35-ton electric dump truck, highlighting its commitment to advanced engineering and green mining solutions. In the Rail & Metro division, BEML is a premier manufacturer of rolling stock. Since the 1980s, it has built and delivered over 18,000 mainline passenger coaches, electrical multiple units (EMUs), and self-propelled vehicles for Indian Railways. It has also emerged as a dominant player in urban transit, supplying more than 2,000 high-tech metro cars to major metro networks across India, including Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Jaipur. Expanding its technological boundaries, BEML is currently developing train sets for the Vande Bharat Sleeper platform and high-speed train sets capable of reaching speeds up to 350 kmph. The Defence & Aerospace vertical manufactures critical military hardware, including Tatra-based high-mobility vehicles, recovery vehicles, pontoon bridge systems, tank transportation trailers, and ground support equipment for missile and radar development projects. BEML operates nine state-of-the-art manufacturing units located across Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields (KGF), Mysore in Karnataka, and Palakkad in Kerala, alongside its subsidiary Vignyan Industries Limited in Chikmagalur. Backed by extensive R&D facilities, including an Industrial Design Centre in Bengaluru, and led by Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy, BEML remains a key contributor to India’s strategic self-reliance and the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' vision.
