Boomi is a leading software company that pioneered the integration platform as a service (iPaaS) category. Founded in March 2000 by Rick Nucci and Brian Mozhdehi in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, the company initially focused on configuration-based on-premises middleware to link online databases for e-commerce sites. Recognizing the shifting technological landscape, Boomi launched AtomSphere in 2007, which became the industry's first cloud-native iPaaS solution, enabling businesses to build, deploy, and manage integrations using a visual, drag-and-drop interface without heavy custom coding. The company's strategic value attracted major enterprise interest, leading to its acquisition by Dell Technologies in November 2010. Under Dell, Boomi scaled its operations globally and expanded its portfolio beyond application integration to include API management, master data management, B2B/EDI partner management, and data preparation. In May 2021, private equity firms Francisco Partners and TPG Capital acquired Boomi from Dell Technologies for $4 billion, returning the company to an independent status to accelerate its growth strategies. Following its spin-off, Steve Lucas was appointed CEO in late 2022 to guide the company through its next phase of scaling. Headquartered in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, Boomi has evolved into an international enterprise with an extensive global footprint, including a significant presence in India through Boomi Software India Private Limited, established in 2016. As of 2025, Boomi serves more than 25,000 customers globally across highly regulated industries such as healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, and the public sector. Its extensive ecosystem features over 800 partners and a user community exceeding 250,000 members. The Boomi Enterprise Platform is designed to break down data silos and automate complex business workflows. It provides more than 1,500 pre-built application connectors to link on-premises and hybrid cloud systems securely. To maintain a competitive edge, Boomi has aggressively integrated generative AI capabilities into its core platform. Under its "Boomi AI" and "agentic enterprise" frameworks, the platform supports autonomous integrations, self-healing data governance, and the deployment of enterprise AI agents. Financially, Boomi operates as a highly successful, privately held software-as-a-service (SaaS) entity. To complement its internal product engineering, the company has pursued an active mergers and acquisitions strategy. In 2024, Boomi expanded its technical capabilities by acquiring the federated API management business from Germany-based APIIDA AG, alongside the Mashery API management assets from Cloud Software Group. It also entered into definitive agreements to acquire the data integration provider Rivery and enterprise managed file transfer provider Thru, Inc. Boomi continues to be recognized as an industry leader, consistently securing positioning in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for iPaaS.
