BrowserStack is a leading global software-as-a-service (SaaS) and cloud-based software testing platform founded in 2011 by Ritesh Arora and Nakul Aggarwal. The company was conceptualized while the founders, both alumni of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay), were working together on a technical consulting project. Recognizing a universal struggle among developers to efficiently test website and application cross-compatibility across various combinations of browsers and operating systems, they created a solution that eliminated the need for complex, in-house virtual machines or device labs. Within six months of its launch, the bootstrapped venture achieved profitability. Headquartered in Mumbai, India, with major operational offices in Dublin, San Francisco, and New York, BrowserStack operates as a private company. Its core mission is to provide developer and quality assurance (QA) teams instant, on-demand access to a highly scalable cloud platform. This infrastructure allows companies to test their websites and mobile applications for functionality, visual appeal, performance, and accessibility. As of recent milestones, the platform supports over three million tests daily, serving more than seven million developers and testers across 50,000 corporate teams globally. Its diverse customer base spans 135 countries and includes industry giants like Microsoft, Amazon, NVIDIA, Twitter, and Mastercard. To power this massive volume of testing, BrowserStack manages an extensive infrastructure consisting of more than 21 global data centers. This network gives users access to over 3,500 real mobile devices—both iOS and Android—and desktop browser configurations. This focus on real-device testing creates a durable competitive moat by offering precise, reliable hardware simulations that standard emulators cannot replicate. Over the years, the company has expanded its original web-testing core into an end-to-end suite featuring key products like Live, App Live, Automate, App Automate, Percy for visual testing, and Bug Capture for manual reporting. Driven by market demands, BrowserStack has progressively integrated artificial intelligence into its ecosystem, launching tools like Low-Code Automation and BrowserStack AI to optimize test generation. Financially, the company maintained an entirely founder-owned, bootstrapped model for its first seven years. It took its first outside institutional capital in January 2018, raising $50 million in a Series A round from Accel. In June 2021, BrowserStack raised $200 million in a Series B round led by BOND, with participation from Insight Partners and Accel, which valued the company at $4 billion and solidified its unicorn status. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, its Indian entity alone reported operational revenues of ₹771 crore. Managed by a leadership team including CEO Ritesh Arora, CTO Nakul Aggarwal, and a global workforce exceeding 1,500 employees, BrowserStack continues to drive growth through geographic expansion, strategic acquisitions—such as Percy, Nightwatch.js, Bird Eats Bug, and Requestly—and major liquidity initiatives, including a $125 million employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) and share buyback program announced in early 2026.
