Cleartrip Private Limited, a major player in the online travel agency (OTA) sector, was founded in July 2006 by Matthew Spacie, Stuart Crighton, and Hrush Bhatt. Originally established in Mumbai to address fragmentation within the Indian travel and hospitality industries, the company has grown into a leading travel technology platform. Cleartrip is currently headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, with additional corporate and legal offices maintained in Mumbai, Maharashtra, and Dubai, UAE. The company operates an app-based and desktop aggregator platform that allows users to search, compare, and book domestic and international flights, train and bus tickets, hotel reservations, and curated holiday packages. Over its history, Cleartrip introduced several dedicated tools to streamline travel management, including Cleartrip for Business for corporate travel, Agent Box for travel agents, and localized services like Quickeys for last-minute hotel bookings. In 2018, it expanded its geographic footprint to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region by launching an Arabic version of its website and acquiring Flyin, a prominent online travel aggregator based in Saudi Arabia. The platform has also maintained global and domestic partnerships with major entities such as Google Flights, Amazon, Sabre, and Kerala Tourism Development Corporation to broaden its service reach. In April 2021, the e-commerce giant Flipkart (owned by Walmart) acquired a majority stake in Cleartrip, integrating the platform into the broader Flipkart ecosystem. Later that year, in October 2021, the Adani Group acquired a minority stake in the company. Following these developments, Cleartrip has been recognized as the number two OTA player in India according to industrial studies by VIDEC. Financially, Cleartrip operates as an unlisted private limited company. It has raised approximately $69.5 million in total funding across multiple institutional investment rounds, drawing backing from notable venture capital firms such as DFJ, Sherpalo Ventures, DAG Ventures, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. For the fiscal year 2025, the company reported a net sales revenue increase of 69.77% and a substantial improvement in its net profit margin, generating estimated revenues between INR 100 crore and INR 500 crore. As of late 2025, Cleartrip managed a workforce of approximately 648 employees in India. The company faces active competition from other prominent regional and international travel aggregator platforms, including MakeMyTrip, Ixigo, Yatra, and Traveloka.
