Cricbuzz is a prominent digital sports media platform specializing in comprehensive cricket coverage, live scores, and news. Founded in 2004 by Pankaj Chhaparwal, Piyush Agrawal, and Pravin Hegde, the company began as a website dedicated to delivering real-time match updates and text commentary. Over the years, Cricbuzz has evolved into a massive cricket media hub, expanding its presence through mobile applications and multi-language content. Headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, the platform has grown significantly, serving an extensive user base from casual sports followers to dedicated analysts. In November 2014, Times Internet, a digital subsidiary of the Times Group, acquired a majority stake in Cricbuzz. Following this acquisition, Times Internet merged its existing cricket property, GoCricket, into Cricbuzz in 2015, consolidating the platform's leading position in the Indian digital sports media landscape. The original founders continued to manage operations, driving further technological and market expansion. The website and its accompanying apps offer ball-by-ball commentary, in-depth match analysis, player stats, team rankings, video highlights, and text articles. Available in multiple languages—including English, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi, and Bengali—the platform has achieved over 100 million app downloads and billions of monthly page views, making it one of the most visited cricket websites globally. Cricbuzz’s business model primarily revolves around digital advertising, sponsorships, and strategic brand partnerships. The platform monetizes its high volume of web traffic and user engagement by serving targeted advertisements. In recent years, Cricbuzz has diversified its product offerings and geographic reach. Ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL), Cricbuzz integrated Willow TV, a pay-television cricket channel and streaming service in the United States and Canada, creating a rebranded subscription service called "Willow by Cricbuzz" to capture the North American market. In February 2025, the platform launched its fantasy sports application, Cricbuzz11. Following this, in May 2025, Dream Sports (the parent company of Dream11) acquired a minority stake in Cricbuzz and Willow TV for $50 million. Corporate registries indicate that its associated entity, Cricbuzz Platforms Limited, was incorporated on February 25, 2025, as an unlisted public company based in New Delhi, managed by directors including Pankaj Vasudeo Chhaparwal. Today, Cricbuzz stands as a major component of the global cricket ecosystem, utilizing proprietary features like its CricRate algorithm to sustain high user engagement and connect global cricket fans with real-time match experiences.
