Forcepoint is an American multinational cybersecurity software company headquartered in Austin, Texas. It specializes in data protection, network security, and cloud access solutions, designed to protect organizations from cyber threats and prevent data loss. The company is recognized for its human-centric approach to security, focusing on understanding the behavior and intent of users and machines to provide risk-adaptive protection. The company's origins date back to 1994 when it was founded as NetPartners, an information technology reseller, in Sorrento Valley, San Diego, by Phil Trubey. In 1999, NetPartners was rebranded as Websense and became a publicly traded company on Nasdaq in 2000. Over the years, Websense expanded its portfolio through various acquisitions, including PortAuthority in 2006 for data loss prevention and SurfControl in 2007 for email security. In 2013, the private equity firm Vista Equity Partners acquired Websense for approximately $906 million, taking it private. A major shift occurred in 2015 when Raytheon acquired an 80% interest in Websense for $1.9 billion. Raytheon combined Websense with its own Cyber Products division and the recently acquired Stonesoft to form a joint venture known as Raytheon|Websense. In January 2016, this entity was officially rebranded as Forcepoint. By 2019, Raytheon acquired the remaining 20% stake from Vista Equity Partners. In January 2021, the global investment firm Francisco Partners completed the acquisition of Forcepoint from Raytheon Technologies (now RTX). Following this, in 2023, Francisco Partners divested Forcepoint’s government cybersecurity business to TPG, which later rebranded that segment as Everfox, allowing Forcepoint to focus exclusively on its commercial enterprise business. Forcepoint’s product suite is centered around its "Data-first SASE" (Secure Access Service Edge) architecture. Key offerings include Data Loss Prevention (DLP), which helps organizations discover and protect sensitive data across endpoints, cloud, and web; and its Forcepoint ONE platform, an all-in-one cloud-native security platform that integrates Secure Web Gateway (SWG), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA). The company also offers Cross Domain Solutions, which enable secure data transfer between networks of different security levels. With approximately 1,800 employees and a presence in over 150 countries, Forcepoint serves thousands of customers, including major corporations and government agencies. Under the leadership of CEO Ryan Windham, the company continues to innovate in AI-driven security, recently extending its data security capabilities to protect against risks associated with generative AI tools. Forcepoint remains a leader in the cybersecurity industry, consistently recognized by analysts for its robust data security and web gateway solutions.
