Fortis Healthcare Limited is a leading integrated healthcare delivery service provider in India, recognized as one of the largest and most prestigious healthcare organizations in the country. Established in 1996 as an offshoot of Ranbaxy Laboratories, the company commenced its commercial operations in 2001 with the opening of the Fortis Heart Institute and Multi-Speciality Hospital in Mohali, Punjab. Headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, Fortis has grown into a comprehensive healthcare network that spans across 12 Indian states and maintains an international presence in regions such as Dubai and Sri Lanka. The company’s core business operations are structured into two primary segments: healthcare services (hospitals) and diagnostics. As of early 2025, Fortis operates approximately 27 to 36 healthcare facilities, including joint ventures and operations and management (O&M) facilities. This extensive infrastructure encompasses over 6,000 operational beds and a dedicated team of more than 23,000 healthcare professionals and employees. The hospital segment provides a full spectrum of services ranging from day care specialty facilities and clinics to advanced quaternary care. Fortis is particularly renowned for its expertise in high-complexity medical fields, including cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, renal sciences, orthopedics, and gastroenterology. The diagnostic arm of the company operates under the brand Agilus Diagnostics (formerly SRL Limited). Agilus is one of the largest private diagnostic chains in India, maintaining over 400 diagnostic centers, 43 accredited laboratories, and more than 3,900 customer touchpoints across 25 states. In late 2024, Fortis announced a significant strategic move to consolidate its ownership in Agilus by acquiring additional stakes from private equity firms. A pivotal moment in the company’s history occurred in 2018 when Malaysia’s IHH Healthcare Berhad acquired a 31.1% controlling stake in Fortis Healthcare, providing much-needed capital and stability following a period of corporate transition. Today, the company is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, Fortis reported a total revenue from operations of approximately INR 7,783 crore, with a net income of INR 809 crore. Under the leadership of Chairman Leo Puri and Managing Director and CEO Dr. Ashutosh Raghuvanshi, Fortis continues to focus on its mission of clinical excellence and patient-centric care. The company is currently executing a strategic expansion plan, aiming to add over 3,200 beds by 2030 to reach a total capacity of 8,000+ beds. Additionally, Fortis is committed to integrating advanced medical technology, such as robotic surgery systems and digital health infrastructure, while advancing its sustainability goals through energy-efficient operations.
