Granules India Limited is a prominent, vertically integrated pharmaceutical manufacturing company headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Established originally in 1984 as Triton Laboratories Private Limited by Dr. Krishna Prasad Chigurupati and Uma Chigurupati, the company began as a small production unit focused on manufacturing paracetamol active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Over more than four decades, it has evolved into a global pharmaceutical powerhouse spanning the entire pharmaceutical manufacturing value chain, including Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Pharmaceutical Formulation Intermediates (PFIs), and Finished Dosages (FDs). Formally incorporated as Granules India in 1991, the company went public in 1993 and is traded on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) under the ticker GRANULES. The core business model of Granules India relies on large-scale manufacturing and cost leadership in high-volume, off-patent "core" molecules. It stands as one of the world's largest manufacturers of first-line therapeutic products, including Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Metformin, Guaifenesin, and Methocarbamol. The company utilizes a unique vertical integration strategy, combining API and finished dosage production to drive supply chain security, lower operational costs, and offer strategic partnerships to global generic and branded pharmaceutical companies. Its extensive commercial footprint spans over 80 countries, serving more than 300 customers worldwide across highly regulated international markets, including the United States, Europe, and Japan. To support its massive global supply chain, Granules operates 10 state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, with seven located in India, two in the United States, and one in Switzerland. Notable infrastructure assets include the Gagillapur facility in Hyderabad, which is one of the world's largest single-site finished dosage plants, and a specialized manufacturing unit via its subsidiary, Granules Life Sciences, which contributes an additional 10 billion dosage units annually. The company also commands a robust scientific network consisting of eight research and development centers distributed across India, the US, and Switzerland, driving generic API development and continuous process innovation. In recent years, Granules India has strategically diversified its portfolio beyond high-volume core molecules into margin-accretive, complex therapeutics. This includes expansions into complex generics, Multi-Unit Pellet System (MUPS) technologies, oncology, controlled substances, and central nervous system (CNS) treatments such as ADHD medications. Notably, in 2025, the company entered the high-growth peptide therapeutics and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO) space through the acquisition of Swiss-based Senn Chemicals AG and the establishment of its subsidiary, Ascelis Peptides Private Limited. Financially, Granules India reported a consolidated revenue from operations of INR 4,481.6 crore (approximately US$470 million) and a net income of INR 501.5 crore for the fiscal year 2024-25. The company employs a global workforce of over 6,500 people. Led by Founder and Managing Director Krishna Prasad Chigurupati, Granules actively integrates sustainability and corporate social responsibility into its growth strategy. Through "Project CZRO," the company targets complete supply chain decarbonization and Net-Zero emissions by 2050, partnering with green energy leaders like Greenko ZeroC to establish green pharmaceutical manufacturing zones while generating thousands of regional jobs and providing low-cost essential medications globally.
