Hindalco Industries Limited, the metals flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, is one of the world's largest aluminium rolling and recycling companies and a major global leader in copper. Established in 1958 by Ghanshyam Das Birla, the company commenced production in 1962 with an integrated facility at Renukoot in Uttar Pradesh. Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, Hindalco has grown into a vertically integrated non-ferrous metals powerhouse with a vast operational footprint spanning 10 countries, operating dozens of manufacturing units and mines globally. The company's operations are divided into four primary segments: Novelis, Aluminium Upstream, Aluminium Downstream, and Copper. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, Novelis Inc.—acquired in a landmark $6 billion deal in 2007—Hindalco stands as the world's largest producer of flat-rolled aluminium products and the premier recycler of aluminium cans. The Aluminium Upstream segment in India manages bauxite and coal mining, alumina refining, captive power generation, and aluminium smelting. Its key downstream activities deliver customized value-added solutions such as flat-rolled products, extrusions, and foils under popular consumer brands like Freshwrapp and Everlast. Hindalco's state-of-the-art copper facility at Dahej, Gujarat, houses one of the world’s largest custom copper smelters at a single location, producing copper cathodes, continuous cast rods, precious metals like gold and silver, and di-ammonium phosphate fertilizers. Hindalco serves critical global industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, electrical, building and construction, and sustainable packaging. The company actively supplies aerospace-grade alloys for prominent space missions, including India's Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan projects, while also developing high-end solutions like EV battery enclosures and advanced freight rail wagons. Financially, Hindalco is publicly traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) under the ticker HINDALCO. For the fiscal year 2025, the company reported a consolidated revenue of INR 238,496 crore and a consolidated profit after tax of INR 16,002 crore. Led by Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and Managing Director Satish Pai, Hindalco employs a diverse global workforce of over 68,000 people. Sustainability serves as the backbone of its long-term corporate strategy, guided by its comprehensive "Zero Waste to Landfill, Carbon Neutrality, and Water Positivity" targets. Notably, the company has developed India’s first Sustainable Mining Charter and engineered innovative circular-economy solutions that utilize bauxite residue across alternate industries. These ESG initiatives have repeatedly positioned Hindalco as an industry benchmark, earning it recognition as one of the world's most sustainable aluminium companies by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
