Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) is a leading manufacturer of premium passenger cars in India and operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese multinational conglomerate, Honda Motor Co., Ltd. Established in December 1995, the company was originally formed as a joint venture named Honda Siel Cars India Ltd. (HSCI) between Honda Motor Company and Usha International of the Siddharth Shriram Group. In August 2012, Honda acquired Usha International's entire 3.16 percent stake for INR 1.8 billion, making the company a 100 percent subsidiary and rebranding it to its current name. The company is headquartered in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, where it established its first manufacturing facility in 1997. Spread across 150 acres, this greenfield project initially had a production capacity of 30,000 cars per year, which was later scaled up to 100,000 units annually through increased automation and operational expansions. Seeking to expand its manufacturing footprint, Honda set up a second state-of-the-art facility in Tapukara, located in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. This facility, spanning 450 acres, integrated advanced global manufacturing practices and houses a highly efficient powertrain and press shop. The Tapukara plant has an annual production capacity of 120,000 units, bringing Honda’s localized manufacturing strengths to the forefront of its Indian operations. Honda Cars India has built a strong brand reputation centered on advanced design, durability, reliability, safety, and fuel efficiency. Over its three decades of operations, it has introduced several highly successful models tailored to Indian consumers. Its current portfolio includes popular sedans like the Honda City and the Honda Amaze, alongside utility vehicles like the Elevate and the newly debuted global sporty hybrid SUV, the ZR-V e:HEV. Historically, the company has also marketed premium models such as the Civic, Accord, Jazz, Brio, and CR-V. To complement its new car business and cater to the pre-owned market, the company runs "Honda Auto Terrace," a one-stop corporate solution for buying, selling, and exchanging certified pre-owned Honda vehicles. Financially, Honda Cars India Limited operates as an unlisted public limited company. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, the company reported a robust consolidated revenue from operations of INR 17,500 crore. Leadership of the company is driven by President and CEO Takashi Nakajima, who assumed the role on April 1, 2025, bringing over 30 years of international automotive experience within Honda's global networks. Operating under stringent quality and environmental standards, HCIL facilities hold ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, underscoring its corporate commitment to sustainable manufacturing, low-carbon footprints, and premium service delivery across its expansive nationwide sales and distribution network.
