IndiGo, legally known as InterGlobe Aviation Limited, is India's largest passenger airline and a dominant force in the global aviation market. Founded in 2005 by Rahul Bhatia of InterGlobe Enterprises and Rakesh Gangwal, the airline commenced operations on August 4, 2006, with a flight from New Delhi to Imphal. Headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana, IndiGo has grown from a single-aircraft startup into a massive low-cost carrier (LCC) characterized by its efficiency, punctuality, and unbundled product offerings. As of late 2025, IndiGo maintains a commanding domestic market share of approximately 64% in India. The airline operates an extensive network of over 2,700 daily flights to 137 destinations, including 94 domestic and 43 international locations. Its primary hub is located at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, supported by major operational bases in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Kochi. The company’s growth strategy focuses on three core pillars: offering affordable fares, ensuring on-time performance, and delivering a courteous, hassle-free travel experience. IndiGo’s fleet is among the youngest and most efficient in the world, consisting of 434 aircraft as of March 2025. The fleet primarily features Airbus A320 and A321neo aircraft, alongside ATR 72-600s for regional connectivity. In a historic move in June 2023, IndiGo placed the largest aircraft order in commercial aviation history for 500 Airbus A320neo family planes. The airline is also expanding into long-haul operations, having inducted Airbus A321XLR aircraft and wet-leased wide-body Boeing 777s and 787s to serve destinations in Europe, Central Asia, and Africa. The company is led by Managing Director Rahul Bhatia and CEO Peter Elbers. Financially, IndiGo is listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) under the ticker INDIGO. For the fiscal year 2025, it reported a consolidated operating revenue of INR 80,802.9 crore and a net profit of INR 7,258.4 crore. Beyond passenger travel, the airline operates IndiGo CarGo and offers allied services such as aircraft leasing and pilot training through its "ifly" academy, which is one of the world’s largest aviation training facilities. IndiGo has received numerous accolades, including being named "Best Airline in India & South Asia" at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025. With plans to double its fleet by 2030 and a growing focus on international expansion, IndiGo continues to fulfill its mission of "giving wings to the nation" while solidifying its position as a top-tier global airline.
