JSW Energy Limited, incorporated in 1994, is a prominent Indian power company and a critical utility vertical of the US$ 24 billion JSW Group, one of India's leading conglomerates with a diversified presence across steel, energy, cement, paints, and infrastructure. Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the company commenced its commercial operations in the year 2000 with the commissioning of its first thermal power plant in Vijayanagar, Karnataka. Over the decades, JSW Energy has evolved from a pure-play power generation entity into a full-spectrum integrated energy solutions provider, establishing a robust presence across the entire energy value chain, including power generation, transmission, energy trading, equipment manufacturing, and resource mining. The core operations of JSW Energy are anchored by a massive and rapidly diversifying power generation portfolio, which stands at a locked-in capacity of 32.1 GW as of early 2026. The company operates a balanced mix of thermal and renewable energy assets across multiple Indian states, including Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab. Its thermal generation base includes major operational facilities such as the 1,460 MW Vijayanagar Power Station, the 1,200 MW Ratnagiri Power Station, and the 1,080 MW Barmer Power Station. In alignment with India's green energy transition, the company has substantially scaled up its clean energy footprint, managing premier renewable assets like the 1,091 MW Karcham Wangtoo and 300 MW Baspa-II hydroelectric plants in Himachal Pradesh, alongside utility-scale solar and wind farms. JSW Energy aims to expand its power generation capacity to 20 GW by FY2030 while significantly tilting its fuel mix toward renewable platforms under its subsidiary, JSW Neo Energy. Beyond conventional generation, JSW Energy is pioneering modern infrastructure initiatives in energy storage and green hydrogen. The company has secured a substantial locked-in energy storage capacity of 29.6 GWh, split between Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Pumped Hydro Energy Storage projects, targeting a total of 40 GWh of storage capacity by 2030. Furthermore, the company has commissioned India's largest green hydrogen project at Vijayanagar, featuring a capacity of 3,800 tonnes per annum (TPA) of hydrogen to supply low-emission fuel to JSW Steel. Through joint ventures, the company also participates in power transmission networks, operates the Jalipa and Kapurdi lignite mines to secure fuel requirements, and manufactures supercritical steam turbine generators. Financially, JSW Energy Limited is publicly traded on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) under the ticker symbols JSWENERGY and 533148, respectively. Led by Chairman Sajjan Jindal and Joint Managing Director & CEO Sharad Mahendra, the company operates with a strong focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) frameworks, committing to a long-term goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
