Kansai Nerolac Paints Limited, formerly known as Goodlass Nerolac Paints Limited, is one of India's leading paint and coatings manufacturers. Established in 1920 as Gahagan Paints and Varnish Co. Ltd. at Lower Parel in Mumbai, the company has grown over more than a century to become the second-largest paint company in India and the definitive market leader in the industrial coatings segment, where it holds a dominant market share of over 40 percent. The company is a subsidiary of Japan's Kansai Paint Co., Ltd., one of the top ten coating companies globally, which acquired a majority stake from the Tata Forbes Group in 1999 and currently holds approximately 69.27 percent of the equity. The core operations of Kansai Nerolac span several major market segments, primarily categorized into industrial coatings and decorative paints. In the industrial vertical, the company is a trusted partner for automotive coatings, general industrial coatings, high-performance coatings, and powder coatings, commanding a market share of nearly 60 percent in the automotive segment alone. It develops and supplies paint systems used on the finishing lines of passenger vehicles, electrical components, material handling equipment, bus bodies, containers, and consumer durables. In the decorative paints vertical, which accounts for around 55 percent of its revenue, Nerolac is the third-largest player in India, offering a comprehensive portfolio of interior and exterior wall paints, wood finishes, metal enamels, and interior textures. In recent years, the company has diversified into construction chemicals, adhesives, and sealants through strategic acquisitions and joint ventures, such as its partnership with Polygel and the acquisition of Perma Chemicals, while also launching the Soldier brand for mass-market segments. Kansai Nerolac operates an extensive infrastructure network across India, including state-of-the-art manufacturing plants located in Jainpur (Uttar Pradesh), Bawal (Haryana), Lote (Maharashtra), Hosur (Tamil Nadu), Sayakha (Gujarat), and Goindwal (Punjab). Its vast supply chain and distribution network encompass over 70 sales locations and more than 11,000 dealers nationwide. Beyond India, the company is actively expanding its geographic footprint in South Asia through subsidiaries and joint ventures in Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. Financially, the company is publicly traded on the Indian stock exchanges, with a trailing twelve-month revenue reported at approximately 908 million USD and a net income of around 66.68 million USD as of March 2026. Under the leadership of Managing Director Pravin Chaudhari, Kansai Nerolac continues to invest heavily in research and development to pioneer eco-friendly products.
