The Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center (MEIC) is a prominent healthcare technology and research facility located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Officially incorporated as Medtronic Engineering and Innovation Center Private Limited on April 6, 2011, the organization operates as a critical, non-government private subsidiary under the overarching umbrella of its parent entity, Medtronic plc, a global leader in medical device manufacturing and healthcare technology. Registered with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) in Hyderabad, MEIC has established itself as Medtronic's largest research and development center outside of the United States, operating out of a state-of-the-art, 350,000-square-foot facility situated in the BSR IT/ITES SEZ in Nanakramguda. The center serves as a vital engineering hub dedicated to designing, developing, and deploying software and technology solutions that power complex medical devices used globally. MEIC’s multi-disciplinary operations are spread across several core business and technical domains. It plays a foundational role in embedded and enterprise software development, product cybersecurity, systems engineering, data engineering, and mechanical and hardware design. The center directly contributes to global product lines tracking critical therapeutic areas, including robotics, surgical navigation and imaging, implantable pacemakers, advanced diabetes management systems, and spinal or orthopedic technologies. Beyond its strict research and development workflows, the facility encompasses critical functions in product quality, post-market customer quality, global regulatory compliance, and supply chain operations. In mid-2024, the facility's footprint expanded significantly through a dedicated $60 million investment to establish Medtronic’s first large-scale Global IT (GIT) capability center outside the United States. This co-located entity focuses heavily on advanced digital frontiers, including cloud engineering, data platform maintenance, hyper-automation, digital health applications, and artificial intelligence or machine learning integration to support the enterprise's worldwide workforce. This addition forms part of a broader, long-term strategic investment pipeline of approximately INR 3,000 crore aimed at scaling operational capacities and engineering talent in India. Financially, MEIC has shown rapid scale, generating a recorded revenue of INR 667 crore for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025. The facility houses a robust workforce consisting of over 1,400 highly skilled STEM professionals and engineers. Administratively, the leadership team includes Vice President and Site Leader Divya Prakash Joshi, alongside directors Ramaesh Rathinam, Mani Prakash Neelakantan, and Madhumita Routh. A collaborative entity within India's medical ecosystem, MEIC maintains strong scientific partnerships with local academic institutions, major hospital networks, and key opinion leaders to drive low-cost, high-impact localized health innovation. The workplace is consistently recognized for its organizational culture, earning titles such as one of India's Best Workplaces in Pharmaceuticals, Healthcare, and Biotech, as well as top placements for women and mid-size workplaces by the Great Place to Work Institute.
