MuleSoft, LLC is a prominent American software company specializing in integration and Application Programming Interface (API) management platforms. Headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company provides a unified platform that enables organizations to seamlessly connect applications, data sources, and devices across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. By utilizing an API-led connectivity approach, MuleSoft allows businesses to construct robust application networks that automate workflows, integrate disparate legacy and modern systems, and deliver AI-powered experiences. The company's origins trace back to April 2003, when founder Ross Mason initiated the open-source Mule project. Frustrated by the cumbersome and repetitive "donkey work" associated with integration in corporate IT environments, Mason created a lightweight, Java-based integration framework to simplify application connectivity. In 2006, Ross Mason and Dave Rosenberg co-founded the company under the name MuleSource, which was subsequently rebranded as MuleSoft in 2009. Over its early growth period, the company expanded its scope from basic middleware and messaging to a comprehensive Integration Platform as a Service (iPaaS) model. Between 2006 and 2016, MuleSoft successfully raised approximately $259 million across multiple venture capital funding rounds. MuleSoft's flagship offering is the Anypoint Platform, a comprehensive solution designed to manage the full lifecycle of APIs and integrations. The Anypoint Platform features several core components: the Anypoint Design Center, which provides tools for developers to design and build APIs; the Anypoint Exchange, a centralized library where users can share and discover pre-built APIs, templates, and integration assets; and the Anypoint Management Center, a web interface utilized to analyze, govern, and monitor API performance and security. Additionally, the platform utilizes the Mule runtime engine to facilitate high-performance data exchange and eliminate the need for custom point-to-point integration code. In response to modern technology demands, the company has increasingly incorporated artificial intelligence and automation features, such as the MuleSoft Agent Fabric and Omni Gateway, to orchestrate and govern multi-agent AI ecosystems. In March 2017, MuleSoft became a publicly traded entity on the New York Stock Exchange. Shortly thereafter, in May 2018, Salesforce acquired MuleSoft in a cash-and-stock transaction valued at approximately $6.5 billion. Following the acquisition, MuleSoft was integrated into the Salesforce ecosystem as a subsidiary, enhancing Salesforce's Integration Cloud capabilities and driving digital transformation for global enterprises. Despite its deep integration with Salesforce products, MuleSoft continues to operate as an open and neutral platform, connecting a wide variety of third-party systems, enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications, and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms for thousands of global clients, including major organizations like Coca-Cola, Barclays, and Unilever.
