The National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) is the premier non-governmental trade association, apex body, and chamber of commerce for the technology industry in India. Established in 1988 as a not-for-profit organization, NASSCOM is funded by the industry it serves and acts as its primary advocacy group. It is headquartered in New Delhi, with an additional corporate presence in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, along with numerous regional offices situated across major technology hubs in India. The primary objective of NASSCOM is to build a growth-led, innovative, and sustainable technology and business services sector in India. As the voice of the country's technology ecosystem, its operations focus heavily on policy advocacy, helping shape strategic directions for the sector, and collaborating with central and state governments to foster digital transformation. It actively works to streamline service quality standards, uphold intellectual property rights, and cultivate an environment where tech entrepreneurship and innovation can thrive. NASSCOM’s expansive membership base includes more than 3,000 companies, ranging from early-stage startups and domestic service providers to large multinational corporations operating within India. Collectively, these member organizations constitute approximately 90% to 95% of the Indian IT-BPM (Information Technology-Business Process Management) industry revenues, which is valued at over $250 billion. The technology sector remains one of the highest employment generators within India's private sector, contributing significantly to the nation's GDP, exports, and global positioning as a technology powerhouse. To drive its multi-faceted initiatives, NASSCOM operates through several key affiliations and specialized entities. Among these is the NASSCOM Foundation, a non-profit arm established in 2001 that advocates for "TechForGood," focusing on digital literacy, skilling, and marginalized community empowerment. Another critical affiliate is the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), which is committed to making cyberspace safe and trusted by establishing security practices, standards, and data privacy frameworks. Additionally, through its Sector Skills Council and the modern Future Skills platform, NASSCOM actively addresses talent development, aiming to upscale and bridge the digital talent gap in emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things (IoT). In terms of leadership, NASSCOM has been shaped by prominent industry professionals and founders like Harish Mehta, Nandan Nilekani, and Dewang Mehta. Today, the organization functions under the leadership of its President, Rajesh Nambiar, alongside Chairperson Sindhu Gangadharan (SVP & MD of SAP Labs India) and Vice Chairperson Srikanth Velamakanni. Through regular national, international, and flagship events, NASSCOM continues to connect global innovators, visionaries, and policymakers, reinforcing India’s long-term position as a reliable hub for innovation and professional digital services.
