Nestlé India Limited is a leading player in the Indian Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry and operates as a public subsidiary of the Swiss multinational Nestlé S.A., which holds a 62.76% stake. Nestlé’s association with India began in 1912 when it started trading as The NESTLÉ Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company (Export) Limited. Following independence, the company was officially incorporated in New Delhi on March 28, 1959. It established its first local manufacturing plant in 1961 at Moga, Punjab, to help develop the region's milk economy. The company is primarily involved in the food processing business, with a diverse portfolio divided into four major product segments. The largest is Milk Products and Nutrition, which contributes roughly 40.7% of its turnover through popular brands like CERELAC, EVERYDAY, and MILKMAID. Prepared Dishes and Cooking Aids account for 30.4% of revenue, anchored by the globally recognized MAGGI portfolio. The Confectionery segment comprises 16.5% of turnover, driven by flagship brands such as KITKAT, MUNCH, and MILKYBAR. Lastly, Powdered and Liquid Beverages make up 12.4% of revenue, led by NESCAFÉ. Nestlé India currently operates nine manufacturing facilities located across the country, including sites in Moga, Samalkha, Nanjangud, Choladi, Ponda, Bicholim, Pantnagar, Tahliwal, and Sanand. To meet growing consumer demand, the company is establishing a tenth food processing unit in Odisha. Its corporate headquarters are located in Gurugram, Haryana, supported by four regional branch offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata that manage its extensive sales and marketing operations. Its distribution network reaches over 5.2 million retail outlets across the country. Financially, Nestlé India is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), and it is a constituent of the NIFTY 50 index. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, the company reported total operations revenue of INR 20,201 crore, with a net income of INR 3,207 crore. Led by Chairman and Managing Director Suresh Narayanan, the company employs more than 8,000 individuals and indirectly supports nearly one million livelihoods, including local dairy and coffee farmers, suppliers, and distributors. Nestlé India focuses heavily on portfolio premiumization, digital integration via platforms like NesMitra, and nutrition innovation, such as introducing zero-refined-sugar infant options. In 2024, the company formed a joint venture with Dr. Reddy's Laboratories to expand its nutraceutical and health science presence, while continuing to advance sustainability goals like plastic neutrality and reducing air emissions across its operations.
