Pepperfry Limited is a leading omnichannel marketplace in India specializing in furniture and home décor. Founded in July 2011 by former eBay executives Ambareesh Murty and Ashish Shah, the company is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Pepperfry started its operations as a broad lifestyle portal in January 2012 but strategically pivoted in 2013 to focus on high-margin furniture and home goods, aiming to bring organization to India's fragmented home furnishings market. Operating under a managed marketplace model, Pepperfry connects thousands of regional, national, and MSME brands with consumers across the country. The platform offers an extensive portfolio of over 1.2 lakh products, encompassing categories such as sofas, beds, dining tables, wardrobes, lighting, furnishings, kitchenware, and pet supplies. To manage the fulfillment of these bulky lifestyle items efficiently, the company established its dedicated logistics network, PepCart, and operates major distribution hubs and warehouses across key cities like Bangalore, Jodhpur, Mumbai, and Delhi. In 2014, Pepperfry transitioned into an omnichannel retailer by introducing its first physical experience center, "Studio Pepperfry," in Mumbai. These offline studios, which serve as experiential touchpoints rather than transactional storefronts, allow customers to evaluate product quality and consult with design experts. Over the years, the company shifted toward a franchise-led growth model. By adopting a fixed-asset-light Franchise-Owned Franchise-Operated (FOFO) system, Pepperfry expanded its footprint to encompass over 200 studios across more than 100 Indian cities, with offline channels contributing significantly to its overall business. Financially, Pepperfry has raised over $300 million through multiple institutional funding rounds from prominent investors including Norwest Venture Partners, Bertelsmann India Investments, Goldman Sachs, State Street Global Advisors, and Pidilite Industries. In May 2022, the entity transitioned into a public limited company, signaling intentions for an initial public offering. Following the sudden demise of co-founder and CEO Ambareesh Murty in 2023, co-founder Ashish Shah took over as Chief Executive Officer and initiated structural optimizations across marketing and supply chain channels, substantially narrowing the company's operational losses. In February 2026, Pepperfry was acquired by TCC Concept, transitioning its financing status from venture-backed to an operating subsidiary, while continuing to serve millions of registered users nationwide as a major brand in the Indian e-commerce landscape.
