Pratt & Whitney India is a key regional division of Pratt & Whitney, a world-leading American aerospace manufacturer and subsidiary of RTX Corporation. Operating as part of United Technologies Corporation India Private Limited, the company has played a major role in powering and supporting India's rapid aviation expansion for over seven decades. Globally renowned for the design, manufacture, and servicing of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units (APUs), Pratt & Whitney maintains a massive operational footprint in the Indian subcontinent across commercial, military, and regional aviation sectors. The company's advanced engines currently power more than 600 aircraft in India. Notably, the unique geared fan architecture of the Pratt & Whitney GTF engine powers over 140 Airbus A320neo family aircraft operated by major Indian carriers, delivering substantial sustainability benefits and cost efficiencies. In regional aviation, the PW100/150 engine family serves as the backbone for nearly 90 turboprop aircraft, including ATR 42/72 and Q400 fleets operated by airlines like IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Alliance Air. Furthermore, the PW127G engine powers the Indian Air Force's C-295 military transport aircraft. Pratt & Whitney has heavily invested in local infrastructure, sourcing over $500 million in engineering services from India over the last twenty years alongside an additional $40 million recently injected into specialized engineering and supply chain hubs. Key facilities include the India Engineering Center (IEC) and the India Capability Center (ICC) in Bengaluru, which employ hundreds of analysts, customer service experts, and engineers focused on aero, mechanical, and control systems for its global commercial portfolio. In 2024, the company launched its multi-million-dollar India Digital Capability Center (IDCC) in Bengaluru to accelerate global digital and business transformation initiatives, with plans to scale its team to over 300 employees by 2027. The organization also drives advanced aerospace research through its India R&D Center at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru, focusing on advanced materials and combustion technologies. To support skill development, its state-of-the-art Customer Training Center in Hyderabad provides specialized, hands-on technical training to airline engineers and technicians, having trained over 60 operators from 40 nationalities. Led locally by country head Ashish Saraf, Pratt & Whitney India continues to mature its domestic aerospace supply chain, recently securing strategic manufacturing contracts with prominent domestic aerospace companies like Godrej Enterprises to produce complex engine parts. This deep integration positions Pratt & Whitney India as a crucial player in shaping the country's long-term aerospace ecosystem.
