Rivigo is a technology-enabled logistics company based in India that fundamentally transformed the country’s material movement pipeline through innovative operational models and data-driven infrastructure. Founded in 2014 by former McKinsey consultants Deepak Garg and Gazal Kalra, the company is headquartered in Gurugram, Haryana. Rivigo established itself as a major disruptor in a traditionally fragmented and unorganized sector by introducing a globally unique "driver relay" model. The core philosophy behind the relay trucking model was to make logistics faster, safer, and more human. In a conventional long-haul trucking system in India, truck drivers spend days or weeks away from their families, facing high fatigue and poor working conditions. Rivigo redesigned this process by setting up a network of relay stations. Under this system, no driver (referred to inside the company as a "pilot") operates a truck for more than four to five hours at a stretch. After completing a leg, the pilot hands over the vehicle to another driver and takes control of a returning truck, allowing them to return home to their families on the same day. This operational excellence significantly boosted efficiency. By optimizing truck turnaround times, Rivigo's fleet could cover up to 50 kilometers or more per hour, compared to the traditional industry average of 15 kilometers per hour. This drastic reduction in transit times—often by 50% to 70%—allowed enterprise clients across industries like e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, automotive, cold chain, consumer goods, and retail to cut inventory costs and reliably expand into new geographic markets. To support its complex network, the company established Rivigo Labs, a technology think-tank composed of data scientists and engineers. They developed highly advanced algorithmic models for fuel analytics, route planning, human behavior analysis, automated alert systems, and a dynamic pricing engine powering its digital trucking marketplace, Rivigo Freight. At its peak as an independent entity, Rivigo managed a fleet of thousands of hi-tech trucks, employed over 2,500 people, and covered thousands of cities across India. Financially, Rivigo achieved unicorn status in 2019 after raising a major funding round. Over its lifespan, it raised over $314 million across multiple institutional rounds from prominent global investors, including Elevation Capital (formerly SAIF Partners), Warburg Pincus, KB Investment, and Singapore Post. In November 2022, the company underwent a major structural transition when Mahindra Logistics Limited acquired its core B2B express cargo business for INR 225 crore, integrating Rivigo's prominent relay network and technology assets into its own expanding logistics portfolio.
