Saregama India Limited, a member of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka (RPSG) Group, is India's oldest and most iconic music label, which has successfully transitioned into a comprehensive multi-platform entertainment powerhouse. Originally established in 1901 as the first overseas branch of the British Gramophone Company, it was later incorporated in 1946 as The Gramophone Company (India) Private Limited and went by the celebrated trademark "His Master's Voice" (HMV) for decades before being rebranded as Saregama in 2000. Headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, with corporate operations heavily rooted in Mumbai, the company is publicly traded on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The foundational core of Saregama’s business relies on an intellectual property (IP)-led model, owning an extensive library of over 175,000 tracks spanning more than 25 languages. This archive contains roughly half of all the music ever recorded in India, encompassing historical milestones such as India's first studio-recorded song by Gauhar Jaan in 1902 and the soundtrack of the first Hindi talkie film, "Alam Ara," in 1931. The music segment generates the majority of company revenue through B2B digital licensing to major audio and video streaming platforms like Spotify, YouTube Music, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video, alongside B2C retail initiatives. Notably, its flagship consumer product, Saregama Carvaan—a portable digital audio player pre-loaded with thousands of classic Indian songs—blends modern tech with a retro design to capture the legacy music market. Beyond audio, Saregama has actively diversified into long-form video, television production, live events, and influencer marketing. Its film production arm, Yoodlee Films, focuses on realistic and narrative-driven cinematic content targeted at theatrical and OTT releases, complementing a vast television library that includes over 6,000 hours of multi-language content. In 2023, the company expanded its digital footprint by establishing Saregama Talent for artist management and acquiring a majority stake in Pocket Aces Pictures Private Limited, bringing highly popular digital channels like FilterCopy and Dice Media under its umbrella. Furthermore, its rapidly expanding live events division organizes major musical concerts globally, a footprint set to increase through its newly approved Middle East subsidiary, Saregama Performing Arts and Music Festivals LLC in Dubai. Financially robust and virtually debt-free, Saregama recorded a consolidated revenue from operations of INR 1,171.3 crore (approximately INR 11,713 million) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, driven by aggressive regional music acquisitions, such as the NAV Records Haryanvi catalogue. Under the leadership of Vice Chairperson Avarna Jain and Managing Director Vikram Mehra, Saregama continues to scale its digital ecosystem, boasting a collective social media and streaming audience of over 550 million subscribers.
