Sarvam AI is an Indian generative artificial intelligence company headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Founded in August 2023 by Dr. Vivek Raghavan and Dr. Pratyush Kumar, former contributors to the AI4Bharat initiative at IIT Madras, the startup is focused on developing a full-stack sovereign AI ecosystem designed specifically for India. Sarvam AI aims to make advanced artificial intelligence accessible by creating foundational components, models, and applications tailored to the country's unique linguistic diversity, enterprise demands, and public governance requirements. The company's core technology includes state-of-the-art large language models (LLMs), speech recognition systems, and vision-language systems optimized for Indian languages and code-mixed text. In February 2026, Sarvam AI open-sourced two flagship foundational models: Sarvam 30B (featuring 30 billion parameters) and Sarvam 105B (a Mixture-of-Experts architecture with 10.3 billion active parameters). Trained from scratch on specialized datasets, these models support multilingual tasks, complex reasoning, mathematics, and coding. Additional products include Bulbul, a text-to-speech engine supporting 11 Indian languages with 39 speaker voices, and Saaras (or Saaras V3), a speech-to-text engine that accommodates all 22 scheduled Indian languages, 8kHz telephony audio, and code-mixed speech. Sarvam Vision addresses document understanding, script translation, and handwritten text processing. Sarvam AI operates an enterprise-grade ecosystem divided into specialized offerings. Sarvam for Conversations provides low-latency, culturally fluent voice agents. Sarvam for Work acts as a unified platform integrating diverse data sources and models to streamline enterprise workflows. Sarvam AI for Content enables high-fidelity video dubbing and layout-preserving document translation, while Sarvam AI for Edge Intelligence facilitates real-time, on-device AI applications. The startup is heavily integrated into India's digital public infrastructure and national initiatives. In 2025, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology selected Sarvam AI under the IndiaAI Mission to develop indigenous foundational models, granting it ₹246.72 crore in financial and compute support. The company collaborates with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to integrate multilingual, voice-based interactions into Aadhaar services. It also works alongside state governments; it is establishing a 50MW AI-optimized Sovereign AI Capacity Hub with the Government of Odisha and developing Digital Sangam, a Sovereign AI Research Park anchored by a 20MW data center, with the Government of Tamil Nadu and IIT Madras. Financially, Sarvam AI crossed unicorn status on June 15, 2026, reaching a valuation of $1.5 billion following a $234 million Series B funding round led by HCLTech. The company has raised a total of $468 million over four rounds, backed by prominent global venture capital firms including Lightspeed Venture Partners, Peak XV Partners, Khosla Ventures, and Bessemer Venture Partners.
