Scaler is an Indian educational technology (edtech) company that specializes in online upskilling programs for working technology professionals and college students. Founded in 2019 by Anshuman Singh and Abhimanyu Saxena, both alumni of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), the company is headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. Prior to founding Scaler, Singh worked as a Technical Team Lead at Facebook, while Saxena led the front-end engineering team at Fab.com. The duo originally launched InterviewBit in 2015 as a platform to help software engineers practice coding and prepare for technical interviews, which eventually evolved into the comprehensive ecosystem that is Scaler. Operating under its parent entity InterviewBit, Scaler's business model centers on fee-based, structured training programs ranging from 7 to 12 months. Its flagship offering, Scaler Academy, delivers live online classes, structured curricula, and 1:1 mentorship from industry veterans working at top technology firms such as Google, Meta, Netflix, Microsoft, and Amazon. The curriculum focuses on advanced coding, system design, data science, machine learning, and interview preparation. Over time, Scaler has expanded its educational portfolio to include the Scaler School of Technology, which offers an undergraduate engineering program, and the Scaler School of Business, which provides a modern MBA program tailored for the corporate technology sector. To accelerate its corporate growth, Scaler has pursued strategic acquisitions. It acquired the online learning platform AppliedRoots for approximately $50 million in 2022 to boost its data science and machine learning capabilities, followed by the acquisitions of Coding Elements, Coding Minutes, and Pepcoding. The company claims a highly active community of over 100,000 members on platforms like Discord and reports that its graduates achieve strong career outcomes, including notable salary increases and placements across hundreds of partner organizations. Financially, Scaler is a privately-held company that has raised a total of $76.5 million in funding over multiple investment rounds. Its investors include major venture capital firms such as Lightrock India, Tiger Global Management, and Peak XV Partners (formerly Sequoia Capital India). A Series B funding round in February 2022 raised $55 million, valuing the company at $710 million post-money. Despite recording significant revenue growth and expanding its operations internationally into the United States market, the company has also navigate challenges common to the edtech sector, including workforce restructurings and navigating the balance between aggressive market expansion and operational profitability.
