SendGrid India functions as the regional operational arm of Twilio SendGrid, a globally recognized, API-centric cloud-based customer communication platform. Originally established in Boulder, Colorado, in 2009 by Isaac Saldana, Tim Jenkins, and Jose Lopez, SendGrid was incubated through the Techstars accelerator program. It achieved a historic milestone as the first Techstars graduate to launch an initial public offering (IPO) on the New York Stock Exchange in November 2017. Recognizing its immense value in cloud communications, Twilio acquired SendGrid in an all-stock transaction valued at $3 billion, which officially concluded on February 1, 2019. In a major corporate restructuring move in February 2026, Twilio announced the full integration and brand consolidation of SendGrid.com into Twilio.com, officially transitioning the standalone identity into "Twilio Email" within its unified customer-engagement architecture. The core service provided by SendGrid centers on a robust, highly reliable platform designed for transactional and marketing email delivery. It mitigates the operational complexities of managing standalone Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) infrastructure, which frequently faces deliverability disruptions due to internet service provider (ISP) IP reputation issues, blacklist monitoring, and domain throttling. SendGrid handles infrastructure requirements such as DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM), Sender Policy Framework (SPF), and DMARC configurations. By offering programmable RESTful APIs and SMTP relay libraries compatible with various programming languages, developers can effortlessly automate notifications, password resets, shipping alerts, and sign-up confirmations. Marketers also utilize its tools for automation, responsive design templates, dynamic template testing, and analytics like link tracking and open-rate reporting. Globally, the infrastructure processes billions of messages, demonstrating a massive email transmission capacity during peak operational periods such as Cyber Week. In India, SendGrid has steadily expanded its footprint to cater to the digital ecosystem. Historically, to facilitate localized operations and distribution, Twilio collaborated with ValueFirst, a leading Indian Cloud Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) provider that Twilio acquired. This partnership significantly scaled SendGrid’s distribution network throughout India, allowing domestic enterprises, tech startups, and digital marketing agencies to integrate world-class email deliverability into their cross-channel communication strategies. Furthermore, since July 2017, compliance regulations under Indian tax laws require non-resident entities supplying Online Information Database Access and Retrieval (OIDAR) services to register and collect an 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Business-to-Consumer (B2C) transactions involving non-registered customers, while Business-to-Business (B2B) clients provide valid GST identification numbers to manage appropriate tax compliance. Prominent international and domestic companies utilize SendGrid's specialized delivery infrastructure to power high-volume, reliable user interactions.
