Shemaroo Entertainment Limited is an established, integrated media conglomerate with a six-decade legacy in the Indian entertainment industry. Founded in 1962 by Buddhichand Maroo as a book-circulating library in South Mumbai, the company has successfully transitioned through the evolving media landscape to become a prominent content creator, aggregator, distributor, and broadcaster. Over the years, Shemaroo has pioneered several milestones in India, establishing the country’s first video rental business in 1979 and becoming one of the first brands to distribute home video rights via the VHS format in 1987. Headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, the company went public in 2014 and is listed on both the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The core operations of Shemaroo revolve around an aggregation and monetization business model. The company possesses an extensive and diverse content library consisting of over 3,700 film and non-film titles spanning Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, and other regional languages. This library includes classic and contemporary Hindi films, television shows, web series, devotional content, comedy, and children's programming. Shemaroo acts as a critical intermediary by acquiring rights to this content and syndicating them to traditional television networks, digital platforms, and overseas distribution channels. In recent years, Shemaroo has significantly expanded its consumer-facing footprint across digital and broadcast media. In 2019, it launched its proprietary video-on-demand OTT platform, ShemarooMe, which operates on a freemium model and caters to domestic and international audiences, including viewers in the US, the UK, and the Middle East. Furthermore, the company manages a massive online presence via YouTube, operating over 50 channels that collectively garner billions of monthly views. In the linear television segment, the company operates several free-to-air (FTA) channels under the Shemaroo Entertainment Media Network, including Shemaroo TV (a Hindi general entertainment channel), Shemaroo Umang, Shemaroo MarathiBana (a 24-hour Marathi movie channel), and Shemaroo Josh (a dedicated Hindi movie channel launched in September 2025). Beyond broadcasting, Shemaroo provides premium in-flight entertainment solutions to major global airlines like Emirates, Singapore Airlines, and Qatar Airways through its subsidiary, Contentino Media. It also holds official Bollywood licensing and merchandising rights under its brand 'Yedaz' and offers pre-loaded audio Bluetooth speakers featuring devotional content. Led by Chairman and Managing Director Raman Maroo alongside Whole Time Director and CEO Hiren Gada, Shemaroo Entertainment Limited employs hundreds of professionals and reported an operational revenue of INR 693 crore for the financial year ending March 31, 2025. The company remains dedicated to scaling its digital capabilities and broadcast networks to entertain audiences across more than 150 countries.
