Škoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) is the wholly owned Indian subsidiary of the German automotive conglomerate, the Volkswagen Group. Headquartered in Pune, Maharashtra, the company was officially formed in October 2019 following the merger of three erstwhile entities: Volkswagen India Private Limited, Volkswagen Group Sales India Private Limited, and Škoda Auto India Private Limited. This strategic consolidation was designed to streamline operations, enhance manufacturing efficiencies, and establish a single point of accountability for the Group’s ambitious growth strategy in the Indian subcontinent. SAVWIPL is responsible for managing the business operations, local manufacturing, and sales of five prominent automotive brands within the country: Škoda, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, and Lamborghini. The company operates two state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Maharashtra. The primary, high-volume production hub is located in Chakan, Pune, which features a fully integrated plant covering the entire automotive production process from press shop, body shop, and paint shop to final assembly and engine manufacturing. The second facility is located in Aurangabad, which is dedicated to the assembly of premium and luxury segment vehicles for the Group’s diverse brand portfolio. A pivotal turning point for the company was the conceptualization and execution of the "INDIA 2.0" project, led by Škoda Auto. Under this initiative, the company made substantial investments to heavily localize the Volkswagen Group’s modular MQB-A0 platform, adapting it specifically to meet the unique driving conditions, safety standards, and value expectations of Indian consumers. Known as the MQB-A0-IN platform, this technology serves as the foundation for highly successful, mid-size models such as the Škoda Kushaq and Slavia, alongside the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus. These localized models have achieved top-tier safety certifications, including 5-star Global NCAP ratings, significantly strengthening the brand's reputation for German engineering, robust build quality, and superior driving dynamics. Beyond serving the domestic market, Škoda Auto Volkswagen India has transformed into a critical export hub for the global Volkswagen network. The vehicles and components manufactured at its Indian facilities are exported to various international markets, including parts of Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and Africa, thereby contributing to the Government of India’s "Make in India" vision. Moving forward, SAVWIPL continues to expand its retail and service footprints across India while actively evaluating future product roadmaps, which include the introduction of sustainable mobility solutions and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) to align with evolving consumer preferences and international environmental standards.
