Snowflake Inc. is a leading American cloud-based artificial intelligence (AI) data platform company that enables organizations to mobilize their data and eliminate traditional data silos. Founded in July 2012 by data warehousing experts Benoît Dageville, Thierry Cruanes, and Marcin Żukowski, the company was established with a vision to harness the immense scalability of the cloud. Initially based in San Mateo, California, and later operating as a distributed enterprise with principal offices in Bozeman, Montana, Snowflake relocated its headquarters to Menlo Park, California, in 2025. The company is currently led by Chief Executive Officer Sridhar Ramaswamy, who took the helm in February 2024 following the retirement of Frank Slootman. At the core of Snowflake's offering is the AI Data Cloud, a unified platform and connected ecosystem where customers, partners, and data providers can build, use, and securely share data, applications, and AI models. Snowflake’s unique, cloud-native architecture stands out by separating data compute resources from storage layers. This allows enterprises to scale their processing power and storage capacity independently and elastically, optimizing cost, performance, and flexibility. Operating seamlessly across major public cloud infrastructures—including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)—Snowflake delivers a consistent and frictionless experience regardless of where the underlying data or users reside. The platform supports a comprehensive suite of workloads, including data warehousing, data lakes, data engineering, streaming analytics, data science, and secure collaboration. Over the years, Snowflake has continuously expanded its capabilities through key innovations. In 2020, it introduced Snowpark, a developer framework allowing engineers to write data pipelines using Python, Java, and Scala directly within the system. This was followed by Unistore for hybrid transactional and analytical workloads, and the Native App Framework for building and monetizing secure applications. More recently, Snowflake launched Cortex, a set of embedded generative AI and machine learning services, alongside Snowflake Intelligence to power advanced enterprise AI applications. Financially, Snowflake is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol SNOW, following one of the largest software initial public offerings (IPOs) in history in September 2020. The company has demonstrated exceptional growth, reporting a full-year fiscal 2026 product revenue of USD 4.72 billion. Serving more than 12,000 global customers, including numerous Fortune 2000 enterprises across industries like finance, retail, and healthcare, Snowflake manages billions of average daily queries. Through its innovative consumption-based business model, robust multi-cluster shared data architecture, and expanding technology ecosystem, Snowflake continues to democratize enterprise analytics and drive the global transition toward data-driven intelligence.
