Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), established in 2006, is a prominent Indian aerospace, military engineering, and defense technology company. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons, serving as the strategic aerospace and defense arm of the Tata Group. Headquartered in Hyderabad, Telangana, the company is a critical private sector player in India's defense space, aligning heavily with the government's 'Make in India' initiative. It operates multiple advanced manufacturing facilities across major hubs, including Hyderabad, Nagpur, and Bengaluru, and has recently expanded its global footprint with defense manufacturing capabilities overseas. The core operations of TASL are divided into several key business segments: aerostructures and aero-engines, airborne platforms and systems, defense and security, and land mobility solutions. In the aerostructures and aero-engines vertical, the company has positioned itself as a key partner in the international supply chain, acting as a global single-source provider for major global aerospace Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). TASL delivers end-to-end solutions spanning design, advanced tooling, complex machining, and full airframe assembly. In the airborne platforms segment, TASL has built deep capabilities in the assembly of both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. The company entered a joint venture with Airbus Defence and Space to manufacture the Airbus C295 tactical transport aircraft, establishing a Final Assembly Line (FAL) complex in Vadodara, Gujarat. Additionally, the company partnered with Airbus to establish India's first private-sector helicopter assembly line for the H125 in Karnataka. Through its joint venture with Boeing (Tata Boeing Aerospace Limited), TASL serves as the exclusive global manufacturer of fuselages for AH-64 Apache helicopters. It also collaborates with Lockheed Martin to manufacture wings for aircraft platforms. Within defense, security, and land mobility, TASL indigenously designs, develops, and integrates complex electronic warfare suites, missile launchers, radar systems, and command and control systems. Key products include the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, and the Wheeled Armoured Personnel Carrier (WhAPC) Kestrel for the Indian Army. The company is also heavily involved in unmanned aerial systems, producing platforms like the Sky-I UAV and the ALS-50 kamikaze drone, alongside building low-Earth orbit satellites (such as TSAT-1A). Financially, TASL is a robust entity, reporting revenues between INR 1,000 crore and 5,000 crore. As of early 2026, the company continues to scale its workforce, employing several thousand engineering and manufacturing professionals. Led by senior management including Chairman Banmali Agrawala, TASL continues to drive digital transformation and cutting-edge indigenization across air, land, sea, and space systems for Indian and global armed forces.
