Migdal HaEmek, Israel
Tower Semiconductor Ltd. is a leading independent specialty semiconductor foundry that manufactures high-value analog integrated circuits. Headquartered in Migdal Haemek, Israel, the company provides technology, development, and process platforms for more than 300 customers worldwide. Unlike digital foundries that focus on transistor density and shrinking nodes, Tower focuses on specialty process technologies where analog performance, power handling, sensing, and reliability are critical. Its expertise spans markets such as mobile connectivity, automotive, industrial, medical, aerospace and defense, and infrastructure. The company offers a broad range of customizable process platforms, including Silicon Germanium (SiGe), BiCMOS, Mixed-Signal/CMOS, Radio Frequency CMOS (RFCMOS), CMOS Image Sensors (CIS), non-imaging sensors, integrated Power Management (BCD and 700V), and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS). Beyond manufacturing, Tower provides world-class design enablement services and Transfer Optimization and development Process Services (TOPS) to integrated device manufacturers (IDMs) and fabless companies. Tower Semiconductor was founded in 1993 with the acquisition of National Semiconductor’s 150mm wafer fabrication facility in Israel and became a public company in 1994. Its growth has been fueled by strategic global expansions. In 2008, it acquired Jazz Semiconductor, adding a 200mm facility in Newport Beach, California, and rebranded briefly as TowerJazz. In 2014, the company formed Tower Partners Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (TPSCo) in Japan, a joint venture with Panasonic Corporation (now Nuvoton Technology Corporation Japan), which added three manufacturing facilities and state-of-the-art 300mm technology. Further expansion occurred in 2016 with the acquisition of Maxim Integrated’s 8-inch fab in San Antonio, Texas. Today, Tower operates a global manufacturing network. This includes two fabs in Israel, two in the U.S., and two in Japan through TPSCo. It also shares a 300mm facility in Italy with STMicroelectronics and has a capacity agreement with Intel in New Mexico. In 2022, Intel announced plans to acquire Tower for $5.4 billion, but the deal was terminated in August 2023 due to a lack of timely regulatory approvals. Financially, Tower Semiconductor is listed on both the NASDAQ and the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange under the ticker TSEM. For the fiscal year 2025, the company reported revenue of approximately $1.57 billion. Led by CEO Russell C. Ellwanger and Chairman Amir Elstein, the company employs approximately 5,000 people globally. Tower remains a dominant player in the analog ecosystem, emphasizing long-term partnerships and a sustainable impact through innovative technology that powers modern connectivity and smart systems.
