Toyota Kirloskar Motor Private Limited (TKM) is a prominent Indian automotive manufacturer established on October 6, 1997. The company operates as a strategic joint venture between the Japanese automotive giant Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), which holds an 89% equity stake, and the Indian conglomerate Kirloskar Group, which maintains the remaining 11% through Kirloskar Systems Limited. Headquartered in Bidadi, near Bengaluru, Karnataka, TKM was formed to leverage Toyota's global technological expertise alongside Kirloskar's deep understanding of the Indian industrial and regulatory landscape. The company's manufacturing footprint is centered in the Bidadi Industrial Area, where it operates two state-of-the-art production facilities spanning approximately 432 to 850 acres. These plants have a combined annual production capacity of approximately 310,000 to 320,000 vehicles. Plant 1 typically handles the production of rugged, high-demand models like the Innova and Fortuner, while Plant 2 focuses on passenger cars and hybrids, including the Camry and previously the Etios series. TKM’s operations are supported by a robust workforce of approximately 7,000 employees and an extensive nationwide network comprising over 359 sales and service outlets. TKM’s product portfolio is diverse, catering to multiple segments of the Indian market. The company gained significant traction in 2000 with the launch of the Qualis, which quickly captured a substantial share of the multi-utility vehicle (MUV) segment. This was followed by the introduction of the Corolla in 2003 and the landmark launch of the Innova in 2005. Today, TKM produces popular models such as the Fortuner, Hilux, and Camry Hybrid, while also importing premium units like the Land Cruiser and Prado. Additionally, a 2017 partnership with Suzuki has led to the production of collaborative models, including the Glanza and Urban Cruiser. Financially, Toyota Kirloskar Motor has demonstrated strong growth. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, the company reported a consolidated revenue of INR 65,542 crore (approximately US$6.8 billion), with a net income of INR 5,672 crore. The company adheres to the "Customer First" philosophy and the "Toyota Production System," which emphasizes "just-in-time" manufacturing and continuous improvement (Kaizen). Beyond manufacturing, TKM is committed to sustainability and social responsibility, focusing on carbon neutrality goals for 2050 and implementing various CSR initiatives in health, education, and the environment. Led by Managing Director Masakazu Yoshimura, TKM continues to be a pivotal player in India’s transition toward advanced, eco-friendly mobility solutions.
