Urban Ladder Home Decor Solutions Limited is a leading Indian omnichannel furniture and decor retailer that has significantly shaped the online furniture market since its inception. Founded in July 2012 by Ashish Goel and Rajiv Srivatsa in Bengaluru, the company was born out of the founders' personal frustrations with the fragmented and unreliable furniture shopping experience in India. Starting with a modest catalog of just 35 designs and a small team operating out of a house in Marathahalli, the brand quickly distinguished itself through a focus on contemporary design, high-quality craftsmanship, and a curated aesthetic tailored for urban professionals. Initially established as an internet-first brand, Urban Ladder utilized an inventory-led model to ensure stringent quality control and reliable delivery. Over the years, it expanded its catalog to include over 5,000 products across 35 categories, ranging from sofas, beds, and dining tables to lighting, mattresses, and home decor. To enhance the customer experience, the platform integrated advanced technologies like augmented reality (AR), allowing shoppers to visualize how pieces would look in their homes before purchasing. In 2017, the company transitioned into an omnichannel retailer by opening its first flagship physical store in Bengaluru. This move allowed customers to experience the product quality firsthand, bridging the gap between digital browsing and tactile shopping. Today, the brand operates over 50 stores across major Indian metropolitan areas, including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, and Chennai, and delivers to more than 90 cities nationwide. Financially, Urban Ladder raised approximately $115 million from prominent investors such as Sequoia Capital, Kalaari Capital, Elevation Capital, and Steadview Capital. It also received a personal investment from Ratan Tata. Despite its growth, the company faced funding challenges in the late 2010s. A pivotal moment occurred in November 2020 when Reliance Retail Ventures Limited acquired a 96% stake in the company for approximately INR 182 crore. This acquisition integrated Urban Ladder into the vast Reliance retail ecosystem, providing the financial stability and supply chain infrastructure needed for further expansion. Currently headquartered in Mumbai under Reliance Retail, the company continues to operate as a premier destination for home building. Led by CEO Vivek Mehta and guided by its core values of customer obsession, honesty, and transparency, Urban Ladder has focused on achieving long-term sustainability. For the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025, the company reported annual revenues of approximately US$91 million. With a workforce of over 500 employees, the brand remains dedicated to its mission of helping millions of Indians create personalized, beautiful living spaces that reflect their unique identities.
